Today we watched a video entitled One Teacher’s story. Our assignment was to find different ways that this teacher integrated technology into her classroom.
In the past this teacher used traditional methods of teaching her students which included a lot of work for her and a lot of paper.
In her new classroom she has a smart board which allows her students to participate in cooperative learning and actively engages them and encourages participation. She also talked about having her students participate in online collaborative projects. These projects allow her to connect with peers worldwide and enable her to interact with people such as experts in the field. She has a class Blog that she updates daily, and finally her students have their own blog where they can talk about their studies and lives and share with many people outside of the classroom. In her room her students have access to laptops which helps her integrate technology.
Before we had all this technology we COULD send home assignments. We COULD do collaborative assignments (not online) with students and teachers in other cities and schools. We COULD engage our students and encourage participation. We COULD share our perspectives.
Before, we COULDN’T do much work that was shared worldwide. Before, without internet, we COULDN’T blog. (this requires an actually blog) Before, we COULDN’T integrate tools such as a Smart board, or Laptop.
Before we COULD HAVE done many things better. This lies in the fields of cooperative learning, engaging our students, and limiting the use of paper and thus saving trees. Also sharing perspectives could have been improved as well as discussing current events.
